Theme of workshop is Foundations of Taijiquan:

Positive and Negative Circles in the Practical Taijiquan System. All movements in Taijiquan are made up of two cirlces: positive circle or negative circle. This is the most fundamental exercise of Taijiquan practice. Without the integration of the circles, one cannot claim to do taijiquan. This concept was first articulated by Hong Junsheng (disciple of Chen Fake) and then promoted in the West by his disciple Chen Zhonghua. This workshop will explain, describe and teach these two circles.

Key points of emphasis on structure for circles: Head pointing up; elbow pointing to the ground; In with elbow/out with hand; knees up and down; Knees in the arch; Fingers out; Open the Kua; Tailbone down/out; Hand against foot; Hip to the heel; Shoulders down; Wrist sits.

Key points on movement: Flow/connected

Key points on energy: Head pulling up; Lead with fingers

Review of YiLu form: Question and answer, and corrections of each individual student’s form.

Key points of emphasis on structure for form: Head pointing up; elbow pointing to the ground; In with elbow/out with hand; knees up and down; knees in the arch; fingers out; open the kua; round the dang; tailbone down/out; hand against foot; hip to the heel; shoulders down; wrist sits

Movement key points: Flow/connected; circular/curved; rotate/stationery movement; spirals

Key points on energy: head pulling up; movement towards own center; energy spanning outwards; grind the heel; rotate the dantian; lead with fingers
