Chen Zhonghua: Upcoming Workshops in Arizona, Puerto Rico, and Vancouver

Posted by Editor on October 7, 2006

Following is information on upcoming workshops with Chen Zhonghua, teaching Hong’s practical method of Chen style Taijiquan:

Workshops featuring Master Chen Zhonghua
International Standard Bearer for
Chen Style Practical Method

Phoenix, AZ 10/17-10/19/2006
Chen Style Tai Chi Workshop

10/16 (Monday): 6:30-8:30pm, Dinner with Master Chen ($30)
Super Dragon Restaurant (12th Street/Northern)
Get to know Master Chen, and ask him any questions about Tai Chi, particularly Master Hong’s Chen style practical method, about his full time training and his training/retreat facility in China.

Pre-dinner tea at Ping Wei’s house (10622 N 8th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85020) , 5-6:15pm. If you’re available, you’re invited to my house to meet Master Chen first.

10/17 (Tuesday) 6:30-8:30am, Chen Style Tai Chi Silk Reeling/Application ($40)
North Mountain Park (7th Street/Peoria)
What’s the theory behind “Silk Reeling”? How is it done (correctly)? Why practical method? What’s the difference between practical method and other form? You will be better informed through this workshop. (continue on 10/18)

6-9pm, Chen Style Push Hand ($80)
Tapatio Village Community Center (10655 N. 9th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85020)
This is the essence of Tai Chi. No matter what style you’re doing, push-hand is the ultimate test of your Tai Chi knowledge and skills.

10/18 (Wednesday) 6:30-8:30am, Chen Style Tai Chi Yi Lu Practical Method ($40)
North Mountain Park. Continue from previous day.

6-9pm, Chen Style Yi Lu Practical Method Application ($80)
Taptio Village Community Center (9th Street/Clinton)
Master Hong’s practical method bridges gap between the form and push-hand. Therefore, understanding the application of each form is essential in order to do Chen style Tai Chi.

5 events package: $240
You can also pay each individual workshop. If you decide to attend dinner on 10/16, reservation and pre-payment is required before 10/15.

If I had assumed it might cost a lot of money to learn from a master of this caliber, wow, was I wrong! It’s great to see the range of options. Hope a lot of folks get the message. Thanks for providing this kind of information.

  2. You are welcome, Paul. You picked up on a good point. The other thing unique about Chen Zhonghua’s workshops is his total accessiblity and humility, along with willingness to explain and answer questions freely, with good command of English language. He pushes hands with everybody, and gives “hands on” instructions to help everyone get the finer points of structure and technique. No holding back, no secrets, and no fear of pushing with anyone who might be going all out. I would say the workshops are indeed a lot of bang for the buck.
